So to explain this, let me tell you about my industry from an insider and not just what you see on instagram.
On instagram all you will see are the beautiful microblading results. They will usually be on young, tight and often oriential skin types. I mean, we all put our best work on our feeds and it would be crazy not to show it off but you should see a range of skin types, ages and styles otherwise, its just not real life.
4 reasons not to microblade
1. The style is not as popular as it used to be. Its almost too neat sometimes and not realistic. You see the most amazing and intricate designs with hundreds of tiny hairs sliced in to the brow. Yes, this looks great when freshly done but it so rarely heals that way and it will look like a solid block of pigment before long when the lines blur together. People always enquire about microblading as its been a buzz word in the beauty industry for a long time now, but often the treatment they need is anything but. Usually, after discussion, its clear that another style or method would be much more suitable.
2. Microblading is only suitable for for a small percentage of the population. It has great results on some people with dry skins but there are risks involved for people who have oily, combination or thin skins. If I only did microblading and I had the best intensions of the clients in my heart, I should be turning away at least half of my clients surely.
3. It can not be topped up regularly without the risk of scar tissue and most customers come back too often needing it topped. Microblading should heal very subtly and unless you want super natural, the look of no make up at all, you will be back wanting more sooner than you should. When i read on competitors websites that microblading will need topping up every 12 months often think how are you going to do that after they have been to you for the 3rd time. The skin by that time has been so traumatized by being sliced the pigment will never sit the same in it again. I have yet to see an example of client who has had microblading for the 4th tiem and it still looks fresh, clean and crisp but I have seen examples of machine Nano brows. I may be wrong and there may be a person out there with good long term results but what are your chances of being that person?
4. Its is not a good tool for corrective work and as lots of people have already had it, you can not use it effectively to cover old work.
So you may be thinking why don't lots of salons offer the other methods if they are better?
It is usually for a couple of reasons.
Firstly, microblading is cheap to train in and too widely available. The beauty industry is swamped with training companies who churn out microbladers as they promise high earning for little outlay. All that is needed is a pen like handtool and a very small blade. (you also need a personal tattoo licence, licenced premises and a never ending desire for perfection - this is in the small print often). There is lots of cheap training out there for people who think its easy money but these people are very mistaken.
Secondly, the other methods, especailly nano brows are very difficult to perfect and costly to train in. The set up costs are much greater and ther is much more to learn as its very versatile. It involves more types of hand movements, needle configerations and pigment choices to get individual tailored results. These methods arent as widely available from our beauty companies. My microshading technique "Powder Strokes" is quite new and there isnt much training available unless you do hours of research and find it.
I am a cosmetic tattoo artist. Its the best way to describe me as this covers a range of methods, which is what I can offer you. You should accept no less. Katy x
