Micropigmentation Pre-Procedure Information & Care
Before beginning, let’s make sure you are a good candidate for micropigmentation and help you understand what to expect. We want to make sure you get great results, which also requires that you follow appropriate pre- and post-care instructions. It is very important that you read ALL of the information.
What is micropigmentation?
This term can cover a range of methods for implanting pigment into the skin. You may have heard of microblading or semi permanent make up (SPMU) and these both fall under the general heading of micropigmentation.
I use either or both of these methods depending on the skin I'm working on and the client requirements.
What is microblading?
Microblading is a hand held device with a blade which makes small cuts into the skin, which are then filled with ink to create a hair stroke. Pixel is similar but the blade is comprised of tiny needles which produce a line of dots rather than slicing the skin. This is generally considered kinder to the skin.
Digital Machine Brows
The other type of semi permanent make up is digital machine. It has a higher level of accuracy in terms of pigment placement but also a higher retention level. It can create a wider range of effects and can be used for various procedures. This method is also used when tattooing other areas such as Lip Blush and Eye Liners or Lash Enhancement.
Micropigmentation is similar to a tattoo, but with a couple of significant differences. The inks we use are not as permanent as traditional tattoos and we don’t implant our colour as deep into the skin.
This is why the procedure is classed as semi-permanent make up.
As with all cosmetic procedures, individuals should not make their choices lightly. We always recommend clients do their research, understand the procedure and determine what look they want. Its always best to have an idea of what end result you are aiming for.
We offer a range of options in terms of semi permanent make up. These include hair stroke brows, hair strokes with shading (combination brows) and fully shaded brows such as ombre brows or powder brows.
Each eyebrow shape is drawn uniquely for you. We will discuss the best style and method for you depending on your skin type, lifestyle, desired results and desired maintenance.
Rest assured, we use the best tools, have completed the best training and use the best pigments in the industry.
An initial application is incomplete until after a follow-up appointment, which must be scheduled approximately 6-10 weeks after your initial appointment. There is no additional charge for the follow-up appointment as long as it is performed within 12 weeks of the initial application.
Some customers will need a third treatment to obtain their desired level of coverage or saturation. I offer this in a form of a mini top up before 4 months of first treatment. The cost of this is an affordable £70.
Semi permanent make up pigments are designed to fade sigificantly over time. The length of time will vary from client to client.
Microstrokes microblading and PIXEL brows typically lasts 1-2 years, depending on skin type (normal, oily, dry), age (youthful/mature) and correct aftercare.
Digital machine eyebrows usually last a bit longer, up to 3 years. Skincare routine will also affects the retension of the pigment. Clients who tan, uses products with AHA or Glycolic Acid with fade faster as your skin will resurface faster. Each individual's colour retention within the skin will vary. Certain medications will effect retension.
To maintain the brows looking fresh, a freshen up is suggested every 12-18 months. Clients can let the pigmented area fade over time, but please note a slight shadow may remain.
Micropigmentation is a process.
HEALING CAN BE DIFFERENT FOR EVERY CLIENT
It is essential that you follow correct aftercare guidlines. An after care pack will be given to you after your first treament with written instruction. I will also talk through these prior to you leaving the clinic.
The eyebrow area will be slightly red after the procedure and colour will appear very dark. This is normal for the procedure and part of the healing process. The colour will fade by up to 40% as it heals.
In the following days, the eyebrows will continue to be dark and you will notice slight scabbing. Do not pick at the scabs as this may damage the skin and the outcome of the pigmented area. The eyebrows will lighten up in colour as it heals. No down time is required after the procedure but you may not want to make social plans as your brow will be fresh and dark. It takes approximately 7-14 days for the brows to heal over, and about 1 month for the colour to fully set in. You'll notice the colour is very light or has disappeared approximately two weeks after healing.
The skin will have an opaque milky looking quality to it. This is known as the milk skin and is common in tattooing. True colour will reveal itself once healed.
A touch up session after 6 - 12 weeks is necessary as everyone heals differently and outcome will vary. Certain areas may not pick up during first session and will need to be refilled. It is not uncommon to lose up to 70% of the colour after the first session. Pigment colour and brow thickness may need to be adjusted, more strokes can also be added. Individuals with oily skin often require a deeper shade during the touch up session as the oils tend to lighten the pigment. Pigment retention will vary from person to person. Most importantly, your touch up session is when we refine your brows to ensure it looks perfect and retains the colour for hopefully the whole year!
